First let me explain a little bit about MimeTex and then about LaTex. The remaining details can be read from their respective sources. MimeTeX parses a LaTeX math expression and immediately emits the corresponding gif image, and is an entirely separate little program that doesn't use TeX or its fonts in any way. Installing MimeTex is very easy and once installed It just creates one cgi that when put in your site's cgi-bin/ directory, enables creation of math symbols and equations. MimeTex is also easy to use. The only downside of this is one has to know LateX.</p><br /><br /><br /><p>LateX is based on Donald E. Knuth's TeX typesetting language or certain extensions. LaTeX was first developed in 1985 by Leslie Lamport, and is now being maintained and developed by the <a href="http://www.latex-project.org/latex3.html">LaTeX3 Project</a>.
